After months of royal wedding mania around the world, centering around the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, it looks like Germany will also be the place of quite a big royal wedding in a few months time. Make room for Prince Georg Friedrich of Prussia and Princess Sophie of Isenburg who are tying the knot in August!

The day before the marriage ceremony, on Friday 26 August, the couple will host the annual concert of the Princess Kira of Prussia Foundation at the Konzerthaus Berlin. This concert is usually held at Hohenzollern Castle but has been relocated for this special time and to make room for more guests. 1,500 invitations are being sent to the concert this week and the theme of the concert will be 950 years House of Hohenzollern, a jubilee celebrated widely this year.

Then, on Saturday 27 August, the couple will be walking down the isle in the Friedenskirche (Church of Peace) in the palace park of Sanssouci in Potsdam. Around 700 guests have been invited to the marriage ceremony and so far more than 70 journalists from Germany and abroad have been accredited to cover the event. There will be no television broadcast of the wedding though. Attending will be royal and noble guests from Germany and beyond, it will be interesting to see if the prince returns the invitations of the Prince of Asturias and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark whose weddings he attended in 2004.

Prince Georg Friedrich (b. 10 June 1976, Bremen) is the son of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia (1944-1977) and (through second marriage) Duchess Donata of Oldenburg (née Countess Castell-Rüdenhausen). He is thus the great-great-grandson of Emperor Wilhelm II and the head of the Imperial and Royal House of Prussia and head of the House of Hohenzollern. Georg Friedrich studied business economics in Freiberg and today works for a company specialized on marketing academic innovation.

Princess Sophie (b. 7 March 1978, Frankfurt) is the fourth and second youngest child of Fürst Franz Alexander and Fürstin Christine (née Countess von Saurma, Freiin von un zu der Jeltsch) of Isenburg. She has two brothers, one older and one younger, and two sisters, both older. The two sisters have previously married; Katharina to Archduke Martin of Austria-Este (brother of Archduke Lorenz, husband of Princess Astrid of Belgium) and Isabelle to Fürst Carl zu Wied. Sophie has according to German press statements been raised in Hesse, studied business administration in Freiberg and today works with non-profit organizations for a consulting firm.

Prince Georg Friedrich and Princess Sophie had been a private couple for many years before their engagement was announced on 21 January 2011.

I agree with you Christiane, very happy that he's getting married too and also that Sohpie is the bride – and that's not only because it will be an equal match but because they've known each other since an early age and that their relationship has lasted for quite a few years before coming to this decision. It signals a strong commitment to me, and I hope it is.

This is the royal wedding in the real sense of the word because Prince Georg and Princess Sophie are both royals unlike the other two royal princes, Prince William of Wales and Prince Albert of Monaco, who both married commoners who have no aristocratic background. Just tired and feed up hearing the name of Kate Middleton and Charlen Wittstock regularly when there should be no reason to fuss around them as they are not royal by birth.
